(CBS) She wore lots of black and leather to play a brilliant but troubled hacker in "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," but Rooney Mara ditched Lisbeth Salander's look for the film's London premiere.

The actress arrived on the red carpet in a white lace and chiffon dress from Givenchy Couture's Fall 2011 collection (see the original here), with cutouts at the back, sides and shoulders.

Her hair - dyed jet black for the film - was pulled back in a low ponytail, with blunt bangs framing her face. She finished the look with Brian Atwood shoes.

Co-star Daniel Craig was also on hand for the premiere, wearing a black suit and a leather jacket. Other cast members who attended include Joely Richardson, Stellen Skarsgard, Geraldine James, Steven Berkoff and Yorick Van Wageninge, along with director David Fincher and screenwriter Steven Zaillian.

"The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" opens in theaters on Dec. 21, with some showings scheduled for the evening of Dec. 20. The film, based on Stieg Larsson's bestselling crime novel, centers around a journalist (Craig) who teams up with Salander to investigate the decades-old disappearance of the niece of a Swedish industrialist.
