"The Gates" Takes a Bite Out of Suburbia
NEW YORK (CBS) "The Gates" swung open for viewers Sunday night.
The new ABC show is a supernatural satire centered around two vampire couples in a private suburban enclave. Is the show looking to cash in on all the "vampire mania" sweeping the nation? Maybe. Here's the gory details from the series premiere.
We are introduced to Nick Monohan (played by actor Frank Grillo) a Chicago cop who moved to the quiet gated community with his family. He takes seriously his title as chief of police in the sleepy town. Plus we're introduced to some "unexplaned thing" Monohan is escaping from the Windy City. What could that, be? Pray tell.
"The Gates" really wants to take a stab at suburbia in a very dystopian, not-so-blissful way. Clair Radcliff (played by actress Rhona Mitra) is a wife and homemaker by day and a bloodsucking vampire at night. Think of her as one of the "Stepford Wives" gone gruesomely haywire, using blood as shortcake filling. One cheeky moment involves Claire hiding some blood she drained in a few bottles in the family wine collection.
Just when Monohan's family finally gets a chance to settle in by episode's end, Nick is rocked by some terrible news from a late-night caller. Getting gory already.
"The Gates" airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on ABC.
