"The Firm" moves to its Thursday time slot

Josh Lucas as Mitch McDeere in NBC's "The Firm" NBC

(CBS) NBC's new show "The Firm," based on John Grisham's popular novel, moved into its regular spot on Thursday after its special two-hour premiere on Sunday.

Before the TV show, a film version of Grisham's novel was made starring Tom Cruise. The TV version does not retell the story that the movie and book have told -- instead it continues the story the story of attorney Mitchell McDeere, played by Josh Lucas, 10 years after he brought down the prestigious Memphis law firm of Bendini, Lamber & Locke, which had been operating as a front for the Chicago mob.

NBC's "The Firm" shows Mitchell and his family moving from the witness protection program and trying to get back their lives, which includes Mitchell becoming partner at a new small law firm. But the show wouldn't be a show if everything is just fine and dandy -- enter angry mobsters who still want to kill Mitchell and parallels between his new law firm and his old one.

"The Firm" airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
