The Dancing Is The Love Scene
Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey star in a new romantic comedy, The Wedding Planner, the story of what happens when a wedding planner (Lopez) falls in love with the groom (McConaughey).
They agreed with CBS News Early Show Anchor Bryant Gumbel that in a romantic comedy, the chemistry between the two leads is essential.
"I had never done a romantic comedy, and it's my favorite kind of movie," Lopez said. She especially likes When Harry Met Sally and Say Anything.
"I wanted to test myself," Lopez said, explaining why she wanted to be in the movie. "Everybody always told me, because I'm kind of a silly person, that I would be good at it."
Nevertheless, she was nervous the first few days.
McConaughey claims that the director, Adam Shankman, had to "curtail Lopez' sexuality."
"No, he did not. Whatever. Yuk," Lopez retorted. "He's a liar."
The dance numbers were easy for Lopez -- she was, after all, a fly girl (dancer) on the TV show In Living Color.
McConaughey, who had to take dance lessons for the movie, views the dancing he did with Lopez as the lovemaking scene.
"I felt like I was in ninth grade. That first dance, that is the lovemaking scene. It's the push, the pull," he said. "At the end it's a kiss. It doesn't go further than that. It's about first times."
According to Hollywood.com, Lopez, who was born and raised in the Bronx, is the highest paid Latina actress ever. In addition to her acting she has a successful singing career. Her CD Let's Get Loud is up for a Grammy.
She also has a new CD out, J.Lo which she co-produced. She said the CD reflects the fact that, "I've grown a lot, not just musically and vocally, but emotionally, as a person. You just grow up," she said.
McConaughey made his debut in Richard Linklater's Dazed And Confused in 1993. He received favorable attention playing Drew Barrymore's cop boyfriend in Boys On The Side in 1995 and playing a sheriff in John Sayles' Lone Star in 1996. His first leading role was in A Time to Kill. His performance in EdTV in 1999 also brought him acclaim.
