Adopted cat finds original owner who moved away 01:49

RUTHERFORDTON, N.C. - Jill Roberson thought she was giving her cat Mayhem a better place to live when she had to move into a new home on a busy street.

Last month, Roberson found a couple living on a nearby farm in Rutherford County willing to adopt the 18-month-old feline.

But that is not where this story ends, reports CBS Affiliate WSPA in North Carolina.

"We had been here for about three weeks and I was sitting out on the porch and heard a cat meowing," says Robinson. "I walked over to the fence and called to him because I couldn't see anything, and he come bounding under the fence and I have been in shock ever since."

It was a very skinny and dirty Mayhem.
