Texting While Driving: StartTalking App Keeps Your Attention on the Road

AdelaVoice just announced StartTalking, a hands-free text-messaging app for Android phones. What's unique about this particular solution? Unlike other apps, which require at least some interaction with your screen, StartTalking is powered entirely by your voice.

Indeed, you can leave your phone on your dashboard, in your cupholder, or wherever, and activate the app just by saying its pre-assigned name. (I, of course, would opt for the trigger phrase, "Hello, computer.")

From there you just say various commands to dictate or listen to messages, all without so much as touching your phone. This video gives you some background and a quick demo:

Needless to say, this looks pretty sweet -- and I'm jealous that it's not yet available for iPhone. (It's coming soon for that platform, and for BlackBerry as well.)

Android users can get the beta now at http://m.starttalking.com/. Amazingly, StartTalking is free, and will remain that way -- though the company will probably offer premium features as add-ons. [via CNET]
