SAN JUAN, Texas (CBS/KWTX) A 22-year-old mother from south Texas is in jail after her neighbors reported that her four-year-old daughter was trying to sell a brick of marijuana.

Maria Ipina, of San Juan, was charged with possession of a controlled substance after her arrest on Monday.

San Juan Police Chief Juan Gonzalez told The Monitor of McAllen that neighbors reported Ipina's daughter was going door-to-door on Saturday.

"It's unbelievable," Gonzalez told the paper. "She was going door to door in the apartments and trying to sell the marijuana."

Gonzalez said police went to Ipina's apartment and found more than 200 grams of cocaine packaged for sale, but no marijuana.

Gonzalez says the girl and her 6-month-old sibling were turned over to Ipina's mother.
