Temporary Overseas Assignments are Marriage Killers
Being assigned temporarily to an overseas posting can seem glamorous -- but your marriage and wallet may not survive.
Harvard Business Publishing sends up that warning flag based on recent research by the relocation firm Dwellworks.
"Employee-only temporary relocations -- when families stay behind -- often result in troubled marriages, depression, and child behavior problems," notes today's The Daily Stat.
Financial pressure adds to the stress. A third of respondents reported that their relocations resulted in increased financial burdens on the family, such as help with household chores. And 60 percent said employers had not done all they could to protect the family financially.
Have you served overseas on a temporary assignment? A worthwhile experience? What would you counsel those receiving similar offers?
