Taylor Swift's "1989" hits 5 million U.S. sales

Pop star Taylor Swift has hit a major music milestone. Billboard reported Wednesday the Grammy winner's album "1989" has sold more than five million copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen Music.

The album reached the five-million mark during the week ending July 5, its 36th week on the charts, Billboard said, making it the fastest-selling album in more than a decade. Usher held the previous record; his "Confessions" sold five million copies by August 1, 2004, its 19th week on sale.

"1989" is Swift's third album to sell more than five million copies, joining 2008's "Fearless" and her 2006 self-titled debut.
