Tanya Shannon Missing: Illinois Woman Vanishes After Crash Kills Husband
CHICAGO (CBS/WBBM) Where is Tanya Shannon?
That's the question that's been asked in a rural community in Illinois since early Sunday morning.
Forty-year-old Tanya Shannon of Ransom, was believed to have been riding with her husband when their car crashed about 6 miles from their home shortly after they left a holiday party in nearby Streator.
A deputy discovered the one-vehicle wreck around 1:45 a.m. Sunday. Authorities say 41-year-old Dale Shannon was dead behind the wheel.
Footprints in the snow led away from the car, and one of the slippers Tanya Shannon apparently was wearing was found by the road.
Tanya Shannon is described as 5-feet-2-inches tall, 125-pounds, with shoulder-length strawberry blonde hair and green eyes. She was last seen wearing a red dress and a gray hooded jacket.
According to CBS affiliate WBBM, her family believes she must have been injured, and perhaps disoriented, and was picked up by somebody and taken someplace for treatment.
"Maybe [another person] took her to a hospital ... or something of that nature," her sister-in-law, Donna Baker, who is now caring for the couple's four children, told WBBM.
Search efforts were called off Monday night and coordinators are unsure if they will resume Tuesday.
No one matching Tanya Shannon's description has surfaced in any area hospitals.
Anyone with information on Tanya Shannon's whereabouts is urged to call the LaSalle County Sheriff's office at 815-433-2161.
