Suspects, wanted in separate Ind. murders, arrested in Ga.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- Law enforcement officials say that two Indiana men wanted in two different Fort Wayne murders were arrested in the same county in Georgia -- only a few hours apart, reports CBS affiliate WANE.

Police said the timing of the arrests, hundreds of miles from the alleged crimes, was coincidental, according to the station.

Just before 10 a.m. Monday, Shakidi Underwood, 18, was booked into the Gwinnett County jail in Georgia, just outside of Atlanta. Just four hours later, 24-year-old Hozyfa Sultan was booked into the same jail, according to the station.

Underwood has reportedly been on the run since the death of 30-year-old Melvin Palmer, who was shot in July. However, his time avoiding police came to an end during a routine stop in Lawrenceville, Ga., when his sister Porshanique Shaquay Johnson was pulled over after making an illegal turn, reports the station.

After they stopped the car, police say they smelled marijuana. They then asked Underwood for his name and he reportedly refused to give it to them.

"When they asked him for his driver's license or identification he said he didn't have any and when the officers asked him what his name was he said, 'I don't have a name,'" Gwinnett County Corporal Michele Pihera told WANE.

Eventually, Underwood gave officers the information and they soon found out that he was wanted for several charges in Indiana, including robbery and murder.

Two 16-year-old boys -- including the suspect's younger brother -- were already arrested in connection with the murder, according to the station.

Four hours later, the FBI and other law enforcement agencies arrested Sultan in the murder of Brandon Washington last month. The victim's brother, Larry, was reportedly shot 12 hours after Brandon's death.

More information on Sultan's arrest will be released Tuesday, according to the station.

The two suspects are expected to be extradited to Indiana soon, reports WANE.
