Sundance Film Festival Gets Under Way With All-Star Lineup
NEW YORK (CBS/AP) A star-studded lineup of films have been announced for this year's Sundance Film Festival.
Robert Redford's annual indie showcase kicks off Thursday, with films including stars like Katie Holmes, Demi Moore and Pierce Brosnan.
Among the films being showcased are the family drama "Another Happy Day," with Moore, Ellen Barkin and Kate Bosworth; "Salvation Boulevard," starring Brosnan, Jennifer Connelly and Ed Harris; and the crime thriller "The Son of No One," starring Holmes, Channing Tatum and Al Pacino.
Actress Elizabeth Banks will appear in two films at Sundance films - "The Details," with Tobey MaGuire, and "My Idiot Brother," which also stars Paul Rudd, Zooey Deschanel and Emily Mortimer.
Vera Farmiga makes her directorial debut with "Higher Ground," in which she also stars as a mother obsessed with an apocalyptic New Testament church who begins questioning her beliefs as her marriage falls apart.
Morgan Spurlock, whose 2004 film "Super Size Me" won Sundance's documentary directing prize and earned him an Oscar nomination, is returning with "The Greatest Movie Ever Sold," a documentary about product placement in movies that was paid for by product placement in his movie.
A documentary focusing on Chaz Bono's transition from a woman to a man, titled "Becoming Chaz," will also be shown at the festival.
"Ugly Betty" star America Ferrera, "The Simpsons" creator Matt Groening and "Up in the Air" director Jason Reitman are among jurors voting on prizes for entries at the Sundance Film Festival.
Ferrera is on the jury for the independent film festival's key competition - U.S. dramas. The five-member jury announced Tuesday also includes Reitman and director Kimberly Peirce ("Boys Don't Cry").
Groening is on the five-member jury for U.S. documentaries, which also includes director Jeffrey Blitz ("Spellbound").
The festival opens Thursday for an 11-day run in Park City, Utah.
