Stupid Facebook Buys, Kills Drop.io. Try These Alternatives
In a move I can't understand and don't like one bit, Facebook has acquired file-sharing service Drop.io -- and pulled the plug.
Specifically, Facebook has "bought most of Drop.io's technology and assets," and with them company founder Sam Lessin. Whatever plans Facebook might have for all three remains to be seen. But short-term, Drop.io is dead. As of today, you can longer create free drops -- though existing drops will remain accessible until Dec. 15.
This sucks! We've long been big fans of Drop.io around these parts, and now Facebook just swoops in and pulls the rug out? I mean, I'm sure Lessin and his crew have spent a pleasant weekend rolling around on piles of money, but where does that leave the rest of us?
Have no fear. Drop.io may be gone, but there are plenty of other ways to share files. Start with these three:
- WeTransfer Brings the Sexy Back to Sharing Large Files
- Share Huge Files with Multiple People At Once
- Acrobat.com Sends Large Files Straight From Outlook
