"As a designer, I like to work with fabrics that don't bleed; that's why I avoid all animal skins," says McCartney in the video. "Please join me in exploring the huge variety of fashionable shoes, belts, purses, and wallets that aren't the product of a cow's violent death."

Originally, the campaign was to air in New York City taxi cabs, so the fashion editors and buyers would be inundated with the message during Fashion Week, but VeriFone Media, which places the cab ads, refused to allow PETA to buy airtime, saying it runs consumer promotions, not cautions.

Now, PETA is launching the video on fashion blogs, via celebrity tweets and on  Facebook. The video details the graphic process in which cows are killed for their skins.

New York Fall 2012 Fashion Week kicks off Feb. 9 and ends Feb. 16.
