Starz cancels Kelsey Grammer's "Boss"

Kelsey Grammer won't be returning for another round of "Boss."

Starz has announced it's canceling the drama series after two seasons. Although the show received critical acclaim, it has been slow to catch on in the ratings department.

"After much deliberation, we have made the difficult decision to not proceed with 'Boss,'" Starz said in a statement Tuesday. "We remain proud of this award-winning show, its exceptional cast and writers, and are grateful to Kelsey Grammer, [creator] Farhad Safinia and our partners at Lionsgate TV."

The first season averaged about 643,000 viewers for premiere episodes, reports Entertainment Weekly. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the second season opened with just 317,000 viewers, ending in October with a season high of 440,000 viewers.

"Boss" also starred Connie Nielsen, Hannah Ware, Kathleen Robertson and Troy Garity. Starz expects to air four original dramas in 2013, including the last season of "Spartacus."
