Splitsville For Kim And Alec

Oscar-winning actress Kim Basinger has filed for divorce from actor Alec Baldwin.

Basinger cited irreconcilable differences in the petition filed Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court.

According to the document, the couple separated last month.

Basinger, 47, who won an Academy Award for her role in L.A. Confidential, seeks physical custody of their 5-year-old daughter, Ireland. The two will share joint legal custody and Baldwin will get visitation rights, the petition says.

Representatives for the couple could not be reached after hours Friday. A call placed to Basinger's attorney, Neal Raymond Hersh, was not immediately returned.

The two were married in August 1993.

Rumors of their marital woes had been circulating for months.

Last month, the New York Post reported that Basinger had hired a van to take the couple's furniture from their posh Amagansett, Long Island farmhouse.

That came right after the Star tabloid ran photos of the pair arguing on the sidewalk outside a local restaurant.

A source close to both parties tells the New York Daily News, "It's always been a very emotional marriage, on both sides."

And Elaine Kaufman, owner of the chic Manhattan restaurant Elaine's, where the couple spent many evenings, tells the News the breakup is, "...a shame. They are two nice kids."

Baldwin's credits include The Hunt for Red October, The Edge, and the newly released State and Main. He and Basinger starred alongside each other in The Getaway.
