Joseph Gannascoli (WTSP/Hillsborough County Jail)

TAMPA, Florida (CBS/WTSP/AP) Joseph Gannascoli, the actor who played Vito Spatafore in the HBO hit series "The Sopranos," has been arrested on a drunken driving charge in Tampa.

According to jail records, Tampa police arrested the 51-year-old early Friday morning.

The officer who pulled him over said he could smell alcohol on Gannascoli's breath, reports CBS affiliate WTSP. Police say his eyes were bloodshot and watery and his speech was slurred. He did a field sobriety test and the officer says Gannascoli showed numerous signs of impairment.

He was booked in jail where he allegedly blew a .111 blood alcohol level, according to WTSP.

Gannascoli, of East Rockaway, N.Y., has posted $500 bond and was expected to be released from Hillsborough County jail later Friday.

It is unclear if he already has an attorney, according to the St. Petersburg Times.

Gannascoli's "Sopranos" character was Vito Spatafore, a mobster who was killed because he was gay.

According to the actor's website, Gannascoli was appearing Thursday night at a Tampa smoke shop, Soho Cigars, to promote his Cugine brand of cigars.
