Sonja Morgan, "Real Housewives" Star, Files for Bankruptcy; Blames John Travolta

NEW YORK (CBS) Another "housewife" appears to be dealing with money woes.

Sonja Morgan, one of the stars of the "Real Housewives of New York City," filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in New York City Wednesday.

Morgan, who joined the popular Bravo series in Season 3, listed $19.8 million in debt and $13.5 million in assets on her bankruptcy petition, the Wall Street Journal reports.

"The decision to seek bankruptcy relief was not an easy one, but unfortunately, I am at a crossroads in my life," she said in the court docs.

Morgan blamed her financial troubles on a failed movie project, which would have starred John Travolta, with Hannibal Pictures Inc.

According to the court papers, the film "Fast Flash to Bang Time" failed to get off the ground because her production company, Sonja Productions, did not meet the "various conditions" set by Travolta. Hannibal Pictures Inc. later sued Morgan's production company in California and won the $7 million lawsuit.

Morgan joins the growing stable of "Housewife" stars experiencing money problems. Back in June, it was revealed that Teresa Giudice of "The Real Housewives of New Jersey" and her husband, Joe, filed for Chapter 7 protection in 2009.  And the polo company owned by "D.C." housewife Michaele Salahi and husband Tareq entered bankruptcy protection in September.
