The royal wedding is a public holiday in the United Kingdom but fewer employers are planning to close their doors to celebrate the April 29 nuptials of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

The Boston (U.K.) Standard reports a survey of small- and medium-sized businesses across the UK shows that two in five of those businesses will remain open unless the public holiday becomes law.

This isn't the first story about the possible negative impact the royal wedding may have on the British economy. Some businesses are feeling a drag on their finances rather than a surge.

In the U.K., Scottish bosses are least likely to give workers time off on April 29, according to the survey. One man involved with the survey says that because of the already-weak economy and a January increase in VAT, businesses can't afford to give employees time off.
