Soap Superstar Search

The Soap Star Screen Test is back.

Ten aspiring actors, chosen by "Guiding Light" casting director Rob Decina, will compete live on CBS News' The Early Show the week of Nov. 10 for roles on the soap opera next summer.

The new discoveries will join an illustrious group of artists who have appeared on "Guiding Light" throughout the show's rich history, including: Kevin Bacon, Tammy Blanchard, Taye Diggs, Calista Flockhart, Alison Janney, James Earl Jones, Melina Kanakaredes, Sherry Stringfield, Brittany Snow and Christopher Walken.

"Soap Star Screen Tests" originated on The Early Show in April 2002 when 10 soap star hopefuls competed for a weeklong role on CBS' "As the World Turns." The two winners were chosen by viewers who voted on CBSNews.com. Over 11,000 fans participated in the voting process, and the two winners, Vanderbilt University's Courtney Cole and Butler University's Jon Rowland appeared on the soap the week of Aug. 28, 2003.

"Guiding Light" Executive Producer John Conboy said, "The amount of untapped talent out there is tremendous. These screen tests give us the chance to see some gifted young people that we might not otherwise get the opportunity to meet."

Mary Alice Dwyer-Dobbin, Executive-in-Charge of Production for Procter & Gamble Productions, Inc., producer of both "Guiding Light" and "As the World Turns," said, "The talent we discovered during the "As The World Turns" screen tests was so impressive that we couldn't pass up the opportunity to do it again. We're thrilled that The Early Show wants to do this a second time with "Guiding Light"."
