Smartphone thief not so smart, strikes a pose on Facebook, says NYPD

(CBS) NEW YORK - A man was cunning enough to steal a woman's smartphone in the Bronx, but also dumb enough to post a photo himself on Facebook using the stolen phone, according to police.

CBS New York reported police are pursuing the alleged phone snatcher, who they say then took a picture of himself exhaling smoke - one of several pictures of him that wound up online because the victim had her phone set to automatically post photos to her Facebook page.

Police believe the man was smoking marijuana in the photos.

The phone theft happened around 3 a.m. on March 2 near the Grand Concourse.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call Crime stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).

On Saturday, police said a man who had his iPhone stolen was able to recover it using an app he had installed.
