Skype providing free Wi-Fi at airports over holidays
(CBS) - Air travelers will get a little bump in entertainment from Skype this holiday season. The Internet calling service is offering free Wi-Fi at some of the busiest airports in the nation.
The company announced today that over 60 airports will get free Wi-Fi from Dec. 21 through Dec. 27. To enable Skye Wi-Fi via PC, Mac or iPhones, you will need a Skype account, which is free.
Once you launch the Skype app and sign in, follow these instructions.
1. Go to Tools > Options > Skype Wi-Fi Access
2. Check Enable Skype WiFi Access
3. Connect to a WiFi public hotspot
4. In the Skype menu bar, click Tools > Skype WiFi Access
5. Follow the instructions on the screen to select and join a compatible public WiFi network.
Free Wi-Fi is great, but keep in mind you're on a public network, so use precaution.
Turn off sharing, turn on your firewall, use HTTPS sites for checking email and don't type in your credit card info or passwords.
It's also wise to turn off your Wi-Fi when you're finished using the Internet. Use a virtual private network (VPN), if you have access.
