Hate attack alleged against mother, daughter mistaken for couple
NEW YORK CITY -- Police have released sketches of suspects who they say mistook a woman and her mother for a couple and assaulted them in New York City Sept. 12 in an anti-gay attack, reports CBS New York.
Tiffany Santiago and her mother were reportedly eating at a Manhattan restaurant around 1 a.m. Sept. 12 when they were attacked by a group at a nearby table who started yelling anti-gay slurs.
Santiago told the station she and her mother look similar in age. "I think they thought we were on a date," Santiago said.
At one point during the attack, Santiago says one of the suspects threw her across the restaurant.
Police describe the first suspect as a white balding man in his mid-40s, about five feet, eight inches tall, weighing 180 pounds with a beard. The second suspect is described by police as a white woman in her mid-30s, about five feet, seven inches tall and 130 pounds with dirty blonde hair.
The third suspect is also described as a white woman in her mid-30s, about five feet, seven inches tall and 120 pounds with long wavy black hair.
Police have also released surveillance video of the suspects.
