According to CBS affiliate WTSP, dozens of people gathered for the vigil in Elmira, which is where investigators say Rothwell's boyfriend David Perry moved to immediately after Rothwell's disappearance.
The 35-year-old woman has been missing since March and was last seen leaving a Chili's restaurant in Clearwater, Fla.
The friend who last saw her told WTSP that Rothwell had plans to go home and break up with Perry.
While detectives say Perry has not been named a suspect in the case, he has refused to answer detectives' questions about Rothwell and has also refused to take a DNA test. He recently turned over his car to New York authorities and provided a three hour timeline of the day Rothwell disappeared.
Lindsay and Lauren Rothwell, along with their friend Leslie Jackson, led the walk.
They say they hope the vigil brings more attention to her case and that it encourages Perry to talk to detectives.
