It was a week that began with the announcement that Pope John Paul II had died, then saw countless pilgrims waiting in line for hours for a few final moments paying their respects to the beloved and revered leader of over a billion Roman Catholics.

Finally, on Friday, he was laid to rest in a funeral for the ages.
