Shopping With A Click

We've all heard of Black Friday, but come Monday, November 27, shoppers will be out in force without ever leaving their homes or offices. It's the day known as "Cyber Monday," when millions of people will turn to the Internet for their holiday shopping.

And this is going to be a record-setting year. In November and December, analysts forecast, consumers will spend $32 billion dollars online as they shop for family and friends. Yes, $32 billion in just 2 months!

So, if you are one of the 115 million who will be shopping by computer this holiday season, or anytime, here are some tips to follow:

  • Shop at Web sites you know and trust
  • Check refund policies
  • Pay with a credit card. Many have zero liability policies if you are the victim of fraud and, under federal law, you would only be responsible for $50 if you are hit with fraudulent charges.
  • Protect your private information. Look for the retailer's Web site privacy policy.
  • Ensure your computer has the latest anti-virus software installed before shopping online.
  • Print and save the confirmation page when completing an online purchase.

    Happy holidays, and happy shopping!
