(CBS News) NEW YORK -- Over the years, Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter winner Shawn Colvin has become known for her extraordinary songs and incredible guitar playing.

She's celebrating the release of her eighth studio album, "All Fall Down" and her revealing memoir, "Diamond in the Rough."

Colvin, 56, won her Grammys in 1997, for song and record of the year with her hit, "Sunny Came Home."

Colvin stopped by "CBS This Morning: Saturday" to perform in the broadcast's "Second Sup Cafe," and discuss her memoir, which covers some tough times in her life, including battles with alcoholism, anorexia, and depression and thoughts of suicide.

According to Nonesuch Records, "Letting the reader know early on that things more or less turned out OK allows Colvin to tackle her troubles with a survivor's voice. There is humor, remorse, and gratitude in her narrative."
