(CBS News) "Sesame Street" is reportedly heading to the big screen.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Fox has acquired the film rights for the classic children's TV show.

The studio has reportedly tapped longtime "Sesame Street" writer Joey Mazzarino to write the script. Producers Shawn Levy (who directed "Night at the Museum" and "Reel Steel"), Michael Aguilar, Mark Gordon and Guyman Cassidy are also said to be on board.

The beloved characters from "Sesame Street" include Big Bird, Elmo, Cookie Monster, Oscar the Grouch and Bert and Ernie.

The series has already brought forth two movie adaptations - "Follow that Bird" in 1985 and "The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland" in 1999.

Fox had no comment, according to THR's report.

Last year, another set of famous puppets made a splash on the big screen. "The Muppets" opened in theaters last November and went on to take in more than $158 million at the worldwide box office.
