Send Web Links and Text Via SMS with Google Toolbar

google-send-to-phone.jpgHere's a little-known but decidedly handy feature that's built into Google Toolbar: Select a few lines of text in any Web page, right-click it, and then choose Send To > SMS. That'll bring up a Google Send to Phone box, where you can enter the recipient's cell number (you also need to know the carrier) and, if desired, edit the selected text. If the selection is longer than 128 characters, Google will automatically split it into multiple messages. Just keep in mind that the recipient may incur charges for each SMS.

Want to send the entire page instead of just a text snippet? Right-click anywhere in the page and make the same menu selection: Send To > SMS. The recipient will get a link to that site.

If you've never bothered to install Google Toolbar, this is just one more reason to do so. It's chock full of useful features (including my all-time favorite: automatic form completion), and like all Google's goodies, it's free.
