Second Cup Cafe: Paddy Casey
From performing in the streets of Dublin to sharing in the competition of album sales in Ireland with the legendary U2, singer/songwriter Paddy Casey is a lad who's done quite well for himself.
By infusing a mix of folk, soul, jazz, funk, reggae and hip-hop, Casey has a sound like no other.
Casey visted The Early Show's "Second Cup Cafe" Saturday to perform music from his new album, "Addicted to Company."
Some may know Casey from his song "Sweet Suburban Sky," which was featured on the popular TV show "Dawson's Creek."
Paddy's last album, "Living," was a huge success and went eleven times platinum in Ireland with sales in excess of 175,000.
Had it not been for U2 releasing an album in the same year, Casey's album might have been Ireland's biggest-seller in 2005 - quite a compliment, to say the least.
Casey teamed up with producer George Drakoulias (who had produced Tom Petty and Primal Scream) at a studio in the Silverlake area of Los Angeles to record "Addicted to Company."
"The funny thing about that song being the title of the album is that we were going to go with it as the title of the last album, 'Living,'" says Paddy. "So much so, that we even had 'Addicted To Company' t-shirts on sale at some of the gigs," Casey said on his official Web site.
"I love the title and really wanted to use it this time out. For me, it just sums up the human condition, in that it's a realization that, sometimes, maybe it's enough to just be with the people you're with," he said.
For Casey, whether it's singing about life's ups and downs or his daughter, Saoirse, and his friends, it's all about putting his heart into his music.
