Second Cup Café: Manoel Felciano
Tony Award nominee Manoel Felciano is an actor, singer and musician from San Francisco.
He visits the CBS "Saturday Early Show" to sing "Not While I'm Around" from "Sweeney Todd." Felciano plays Tobias Ragg opposite Patti Lupone in the current Broadway revival of the play.
The challenging role requires Felciano to show off his musical skills by playing violin, keyboard and clarinet as well as singing. He is up for a 2006 Tony for Best Featured Actor in a Musical.
In addition to playing many instruments, Felciano speak several languages including French, German, and English.
The son of composer Richard Felciano and dance critic Rita Felciano, Manoel started playing violin at age 5, but didn't start acting until his mid-20s.
After graduating from Yale University, Felciano went to New York, where he worked on Wall Street by day and played in rock bands at night.
His acting career began quite by chance after he was discovered in a bar by a casting director who liked his look.
Even though he lacked acting experience, his musical ability was enough to get him cast in the American premiere of the Andrew Lloyd Webber/Hal Prince musical "Whistle Down The Wind."
Felciano's Broadway credits include "Brooklyn The Musical" and revivals of "Cabaret" and "Jesus Christ Superstar."
