Second Cup Cafe: Julia Fordham
British-born singer/songwriter Julia Fordham has just released a new album "Concrete Love." She plays at The Saturday Early Show's Second Cup Café her trademark blend of soul, folk, and jazz.
Grammy nominee India.Arie joins Fordham in a duet of the title song. Her friendship with India.Arie led to their collaboration. Other songs on "Concrete Love" include "Italy" a fantasy about moving to Italy with a lover and a tribute to the late Minnie Riperton, "Roadside Angel." She also sings a duet with Joe Henry.
Fordham has been singing and writing songs since she was twelve and started to perform at folk and jazz clubs when she was only 14. At age 16 she was writing jingles for her local radio station. Her impressive four-octave voice led her to London where she sang backup for Mari Wilson and later for Kim Wilde.
While still living in the U.K she released her first albums and gathered an international following. She moved to the U.S. and signed with Vanguard when Division One/Atlantic closed their doors last year.
This Summer Fordham is on a nationwide club tour that concludes at the September Russian River Jazz Festival in Sonoma County, Calif. She now lives in Southern California.
