Second Cup Café: Cheyenne Kimball
Cheyenne Kimball has starred in her own reality show, written more than 200 songs and has a debut album, "The Day Has Come," that entered the Billboard 200 album chart this week at No. 15.
Not bad for someone who's still a few days shy of 16 years old.
She visits "Second Cup Café" today to sings songs from "The Day Has Come"
Television audiences got to know Cheyenne when she won "America's Most Talented Kid" in 2003, singing her original material.
This year, she was back on reality TV again with her self-titled show on MTV. The show, which debuted in May, followed Cheyenne during the months leading up to the July 11 release of her album.
According to her Web site, the Texas-born teen wrote her first song when she was just 8 years old — as a punishment for saying something mean to her big sister.
"I remember writing it and hoping it would get me out of trouble," she recalls. "I haven't stopped writing songs or getting into trouble since."
A year later, the determined youngster entered herself in a local talent contest. Her parents allowed her to do the show, thinking she would have her brush with "fame" and then go back to being a regular kid.
But once Cheyenne hit the stage, her parents saw that she was a natural ... and decided to help her reach her dreams.
Cheyenne signed her record deal not long after she won "America's Most Talented Kid."
She spent three years honing her craft and working with various songwriters before completing her debut album.
Finally, "The Day Has Come" for Cheyenne.
