Second Cup Café: Adele

Singer/songwriter Adele has got a lot of soul for a 20-year-old.

The young artist exudes a kind of sophisticated soul beyond her years, yet she also emits a funky, edgy London attitude.

Adele's debut album, "19," reflecting her age at the time of its release, entered the UK charts at #1.

The album also made a huge impression abroad, hitting the Top 10 on the Irish Album Chart (#3), the Dutch Album Chart (#4), Billboard's European Top Albums Chart (#6) and the United World Chart (#8).

Adele, whose full name is Adele Laurie Blue, stopped by The Early Show's "Second Cup Café" Saturday to sing some tunes from her album.

She has been compared to other successful British artists who have made a name for themselves in the U.S. and abroad, such as Grammy Award-winner Amy Winehouse, Grammy nominee Lily Allen and BRIT Awards winner Kate Nash.

The young talent began perfecting her craft at the BRIT School, a performing-arts high school in South London, which was also attended by Nash.

"As soon as I got a microphone in my hand, when I was about 14, I realized I wanted to do this," she said in her bio. "Most people don't like the way their voice sounds when it's recorded. I was just so excited by the whole thing that I wasn't bothered what it sounded like."

The savvy Brit, who croons love songs and daydreams of new pursuits in love, also covers Bob Dylan's "Make You Feel My Love," which is sure to steal some hearts.

Adele's influences include Etta James, Carole King, Ella Fitzgerald, Roberta Flack, Cyndi Lauper, Lauryn Hill, Jeff Buckley, Alicia Keys, The Cranberries, Winehouse, Destiny's Child, The Cure, Paul Weller and Erykah Badu, among others.

In Adele's song "Chasing Pavements" her lyrics read "Should I give up or should I just keep chasing pavements - even if it leads nowhere?"

Needless to say, Adele made the right decision to keep chasing pavements.
