Search For Missing Calif. Girl Continues

The search for a missing 8-year-old girl in Tracy, Calif., has not let up, and investigators are working on hundreds of tips as the search for Sandra Cantu continues.

Her aunt, Angie Chavez, told Early Show co-anchor Maggie Rodriguez that the past five days have been an "absolute nightmare."

"We just want her to come home," she said.

Cantu was last seen on Friday after asking her mother if she could go out and play with a neighbor near the trailer park where they lived. Chavez said that Cantu's mother would not have thought twice about letting her go, because all the children who live in that mobile home community are often out playing in the area.

Cameras installed outside the mobile home captured her leaving the house around 3 p.m., and another camera captured her in the park later that afternoon, but after that, Cantu hasn't been seen.

Tracy police said they've received 360 tips since Cantu was reported missing Friday. Investigators consider a handful of the tips credible, but Captain John Espinoza said they "won't call anything successful" until she is found.

Police have impounded three cars as part of the investigation and two men are being treated as "persons of interest," but no arrests have yet been made.

When asked if investigators are looking into the 80 sex offenders that live in a five-mile radius of the area, Espinoza confirmed they are.

"We have been working on all sex offenders, tracking them and their whereabouts and their activities," he said. "But it is a daunting task."

He would not speculate as to what may have happened to Cantu, but stressed that investigators were doing all they could to bring her home.

Chavez begged that if anyone has her niece, that she be returned to her family.

"Please let her come home. Her family misses her greatly," she said. "She's just such a wonderful girl and we just love her so much. We just want her home."
