(CBS) ROCK HILL, S.C. - A South Carolina man was charged with attempted murder for throwing a bowling ball at a woman's head, after she refused to let him buy her drinks, police say.

Talk about a dark alley - luckily, she wasn't critically injured.

CBS Charlotte reports Omar Sheree Stevenson, 33, was arrested for the Dec. 18 incident in which he threw a 12-pound bowling ball at the victim's head while she was sitting on a bench while during his turn at the lane.

The Herald Online reports authorities were called Sunday to Strikers Family Sports Center to find a 28-year-old woman on the floor next to the snack bar, bleeding from the head.

Witnesses said they saw Stevenson pick up the ball and throw it at the woman before he left the alley. Police arrested the suspect outside of the sports center. He told officers he lost his temper and he regretted throwing the ball at her and asked how she was doing.

CBS Charlotte says the victim was transported to the hospital where she received seven stitches and was released. She reportedly did not suffer a fractured skull or concussion.

Stevenson is charged with attempted murder and was being held on $100,000 bond.
