Saved by the Belt: Buckle blocks bullet in Phila. shooting

A man credits his belt buckle - though not this very one - for preventing serious injury, or worse, when a bullet struck it in a shooting at a Philadelphia grocery store. Wikipedia

(CBS/AP) PHILADELPHIA - When you think of a safety belt it's probably not the first thing that comes to mind.

But a man says he was saved when a stray bullet struck his pants belt buckle in a shooting outside a Philadelphia grocery store.

Store employee Bienvenido Reynoso, 38, says he was about to take a hand truck outside Wednesday afternoon when shots started flying and he hit the ground.

He says he didn't realize he'd been hit until someone noticed he had a hole in his shirt. That's when he found the bullet stuck to his belt buckle.

It happened in the city's Grays Ferry section. Police say one man was shot in the stomach on the street and another bullet dido hit an employee inside 8 Brothers Supermarket.

Reynoso tells The Associated Press he's keeping the lucky belt for the rest of his life.
