Saudi Prince Faisal Dies
The eldest son of Saudi King Fahd died of a heart attack Saturday, Saudi government officials said.
Prince Faisal bin Fahd, who is the equivalent of minister of sports, died at 3 p.m. in the intensive care unit of the King Faisal Specialist Hospital in the capital Riyadh.
Prince Faisal, believed to have been in his fifties, was not in line to the throne. His uncle, Crown Prince Abdullah, is the heir.
Prince Faisal had been admitted to hospital earlier Saturday suffering from "severe heart problems."
Members of Prince Faisal's immediate family had started returning from vacations abroad to be by his side, a hospital source said.
Prince Faisal was believed to be in his fifties. His uncle, Crown Prince Abdullah, is the heir to the throne.
Prince Faisal had returned earlier this week from Jordan where he attended the Arab Games.
Prince Faisal headed the Arab Sports Federation, which organized the games for 21 countries and the Palestinian territories.
King Fahd, who is on vacation in Spain, has five other sons.
