Sarah Palin's PAC has $1.3 Million in Cash
Sarah Palin's political action committee had more than $1.3 million in cash on hand at the end of 2010, according to a Federal Election Commission report filed Wednesday.
SarahPAC raised more than $3.5 million in 2010 and gave more than $500,000 to congressional candidates in the last election cycle, making it one of the nation's biggest PAC donors, the New York Times reports.
The latest report shows that SarahPAC raised more than $275,000 in the last six weeks of 2010, mostly from individuals donating less than $200. PACs are used to support political candidates and issues, and the success of Palin's PAC suggests she could be a strong fundraiser as a candidate were she to mount a presidential campaign this year.
According to reports, Palin has been gauging the political support she could win in the critical early presidential nominating state of Iowa. She' has maintained a high profile among conservatives as a paid commentator on Fox News (last night she mocked President Obama's State of the Union as a "WTF moment") and on the political speaking circuit. On Tuesday, she gave a speech at the Weatherby Hunting and Conservation Award Dinner in Reno, Nevada, which was closed to the press.
Other potential 2012 Republican presidential contenders, such as former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, have yet to file their latest PAC fundraising numbers. The FEC filings are due Monday.
