Sam Litzinger

Sam Litzinger joined CBS News in September 1998, serving as both anchor and reporter.
Among his many accomplishments, Litzinger is quite proud of his series of reports on the life of composer Duke Ellington and another series marking the 50th anniversary of the deaths of music legends Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and "The Big Bopper." Litzinger also anchored updates and live coverage of President Clinton's impeachment trial.
He helped create the World Radio public radio network, based in Kentucky, and has worked for Mutual/NBC Radio, CNN and the Associated Press Radio Network, as well as several commercial and public radio operations throughout the United States.
Litzinger has reported from England, France, Spain, Poland, Germany, Israel, two miles inside Mammoth Cave and from a ship in the middle of a North Atlantic storm. Among his notable interviews are the Dalai Lama, Scotty Moore (Elvis Presleys guitar player), Lemmy from the heavy metal band Motorhead, Richard Nixon, Tony Bennett, Maya Angelou, and a Florida man whose company specializes in capturing alligators that wander into people's swimming pools.
Litzinger was born in Titusville, Pennsylvania, where he began his broadcasting career at age 16. He has a Masters Degree in Comparative Philosophy from the University of Hawaii and, given world and enough time, hopes to complete his doctorate. He has taught Philosophy at the college level and has a particular interest in Tibetan Buddhism.
