(CBS) British comedian Russell Brand, who recently filed for divorce from his pop-star wife Katy Perry, will be hosting his own late night TV comedy show on the FX network, starting later this year, according to FX.

The show is set to be shot in front of a live audience and is said to take on topics including politics, news and pop culture. The show has yet to be titled, reports Reuters.

The 36-year-old started his career as a stand-up comedian in Britain and then went on to host a U.K. talk show and BBC radio show. In 2008 Brand was forced to resign the radio show after making lewd prank phone calls, according to Reuters.

While Brand's comedy is controversial, it is this aspect of his humor that attracted FX to the comic.

"We're very excited to add Russell Brand's bracingly funny, original, and honest voice to the FX comedy line-up," Nick Grad, original programming chief at FX, said in a statement, according to Reuters.

Brand filed for divorce in December from Perry 14 months after the couple tied the knot in India.
