Rumored iPad mini with Retina display delayed, report says

Apple fans anticipating the release of the next iPad mini with Retina display may have to wait a little longer.

According to Reuters, Apple may not be able to produce enough Retina display screens for the smaller tablet to meet demands for the holiday season.

Reuters cites "people who work in the company's supply chain," who say it's unclear what is causing the delay. One of the news agency's sources claims that delays in certifying panel producers is causing the hold up.

Apple is rumored to launch the next-generation iPad and iPad mini this month. The fourth generation iPad and iPad mini were announced on Oct. 23 last year. It's not clear what specific features will be added to the new devices, but reports have suggested the new tablets will have faster chips, better cameras and slimmer bodies.

The competition has already begun to launch new products. Amazon unveiled the Kindle HDX last week, which comes with screens that have a higher resolution than Apple's retina display. Samsung unveiled its new Galaxy Note 10.1-2014 Edition in September.
