Rugby's longest match ever: 24 hours, 5 minutes

Congleton RUFC

LONDON - A rugby club in northwest England has set a record for the sport's longest match by playing continuously for more than 24 hours.

Congleton RUFC played the equivalent of 18 straight matches plus injury time to raise money for charity and earn a place in The Guinness Book of Records.

A 44-man squad was split into teams named Congleton Bears and Mali Lions. After a meager 40 points had been scored in the first 21 hours, the defenses were exhausted and the Lions ran out 889-715 winners.

Organizer Andy Jones says "it was incredible to see someone who had been playing for 18 hours sprint through for a try."

The match lasted 24 hours, 5 minutes, 12 seconds.
