Rudy Keeps on Rolling

(CBS)
From CBS News' Ryan Corsaro:

MANCHESTER, N.H. -- Rudy Giuliani surprised attendees of a New Hampshire robotics competition by riding into this morning's event on a Segway.

"Fascinating! Unbelievable – I think I'm going to keep it," said the Giuliani. "This would make campaigning easier – I could shake three times as many hands."

Introduced by inventor and Segway creator Dean Kamen, Giuliani told the crowd of future scientists and engineers at the University of Southern New Hampshire that technology they're creating is the future of the U.S. economy.

"This is a great world business for us," said Giuliani. "Think of science and engineering as the answer to the balance of payments in international trade."

"You're the best, and this is exactly what this country needs. This country needs competition. It needs a lot more emphasis on science…on engineering."

Giuliani says he does not see as many young people going into the field as he did in his college years, and says technical fields of study need to be fostered in young people.

"If we don't, we will find ourselves at a global disadvantage."
