Romney Goes All In On Michigan

(CBS)
From CBS News' Scott Conroy:

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. -- Though he wouldn't say whether the state is an absolute must win, Mitt Romney is banking his campaign on the idea that he can stop the bleeding in Michigan.

"I will win Michigan," Romney told reporters after a town hall here this evening.

In his speech to over 200 people at Grand Valley University, Romney focused on his ties to the state — he was born and raised here and his father was a popular governor. The former Massachusetts governor also touted his experience in the business world, which he says makes him uniquely qualified among the candidates to turn around the state's flagging economy.

"I will fight for Michigan," Romney said. "I will commit to you that if I am President of the United States, I will not rest if Michigan is in a one-state recession."

The Romney campaign has stopped running advertisements in every state but Michigan, although Romney's press secretary Eric Fehrnstrom told CBS News that no final decisions have been made regarding whether the campaign will continue to be off the air in South Carolina and Florida.

It seems clear that Romney has the financial resources to continue his campaign as long as he wants to. The multimillion dollar candidate has already dipped into his personal wealth several times, and the campaign reported having raised an estimated $5 million ($3.5 million of it for the general election) at today's National Call Day fundraising event in Boston.
