Romney Gives Nod To Obama In Post-Caucus Speech

(CBS)
From CBS News' Scott Conroy:

WEST DES MOINES, IOWA -- After a disappointing second-place finish to Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney did his best to put on a happy face and look forward at his post-caucus party here. Romney took the stage after being introduced by Olympic gold medal speed skater Dan Jansen.

"Just as Dan Jansen pointed out, you win the silver in one event, it doesn't mean you're not going to come back and win the gold in the final event, and that we're going to do," Romney said.

Looking ahead to the Jan. 8 New Hampshire primary, Romney emphasized his background of being a Washington outsider, in contrast to John McCain, his chief rival in the state. In making his point, Romney cited the winner of the Democratic caucus.

"On the Democratic side, a new face: Barack Obama," Romney said. "On our side, two contenders here, the top two finishers, both people from outside Washington. You're going to see change in Washington because America recognizes that we're not going to change the nation and have a bright future if we just send the same old people back to Washington in just different chairs."
