Rocker Pete Doherty Denies Cocaine Charge

(CBS/AP) Rocker Pete Doherty has appeared in a London court on a to deny a charge of cocaine possession.

The Babyshambles' frontman, who has a history of drug use,  was arrested by police investigating the death of heiress Robin Whitehead, who died from a suspected drug overdose last year.

Whitehead had been working on a documentary about Doherty's drug-addicted lifestyle and his relationship with supermodel Kate Moss, the Daily Mail reported.

The 27-year-old Whitehead died of a suspected overdose on January 24. Her body was found by paramedics in an East London flat rented by Doherty's close friend Pete Wolfe. The paper reported that Whitehead had developed a close friendship with Doherty and was a "superfan."

Doherty, 31, has frequently made headlines for his brushes with the law.

In 2006, a photograph surfaced of Doherty allegedly injecting a young girl with a syringe, but police could not prove it was illegal drugs. The singer insisted he was drawing blood.

Wearing a black coat, waistcoat, trousers and a white shirt, he appeared in the dock Wednesday along with two friends also charged with cocaine possession - charges they deny.

All three have been released on bail after the short hearing and ordered to appear in court on March 29.
