Road Warriors: A $3 Gadget to Keep in Your Car

If you're using your smartphone as your GPS, or you just like to keep it at arm's length for calling/speakerphone use, the best location by far is your dashboard. Of course, all it takes is one turn to send your device flying.

The Non-slip Dash Grip Pad Mat keeps phones and other objects securely affixed to your dashboard. For a mere $2.99 (plus shipping), you can get two pads in black -- a good match for just about any dash.

The mats are both magical in their design and uncommonly simple. They're made of "industrial grade non-slip rubber," meaning they adhere right to your dash with no glue or any other permanent means. Just lay one down and presto, it sticks.

Likewise, place your phone, sunglasses, or whatever on top of the pad, and it'll stick there as though it were Velcroed. Pretty slick.

Interestingly, this pads look identical to the rubber shelf paper you can buy in big rolls for about the same price. I'm not positive it will adhere to your dash and devices in the same way as the Non-slip Dash Grip Pad Mat, but for three bucks it might be worth a try. You could end up with a lifetime supply!

While you're at it, check out the Jelly Pad mentioned over at Lifehacker, which seems to do the impossible and hold devices almost vertically. If you've had any experience with this or other "magic dashboard pads," hit the comments and tell me about it!
