RFK Auction Offers Fun With Celebs
How does a weekend on exclusive island Martha's Vineyard water-skiing with a member of the Kennedy clan, fishing with designer Kenneth Cole and playing poker with Larry David, the co-creator "Seinfeld" sound?
In your dreams, maybe? Not anymore.
This experience and other seemingly priceless ones went on sale Thursday as part of an online auction to benefit the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial, a human rights group named for the former U.S. Attorney General and brother of President John F. Kennedy.
Robert F. Kennedy's widow, Ethel, and other members of the Kennedy family helped organize the auction on the Charity Folks auction Web site.
A sports enthusiast can choose from packages including a golf date with NFL Hall of Famer Frank Gifford and Ethel Kennedy herself, or a VIP tour of famed Boston baseball park Fenway Park, including watching a regular-season batting practice and a Red Sox game from the team's dugout.
Fans of the popular ABC comedy "Desperate Housewives" can bid for a walk-on role down Wisteria Lane. There's also the choice of having California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger record your personal voicemail greeting, ending in "Hasta la vista, baby."
The auction also includes items to keep around the house, including paintings by Massachusetts Sen. Edward M. Kennedy and signed books written by Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg.
About 100 items and adventures are up for bid. Bidding on most items ends Dec. 16.
