Republican Rep. Phil Roe of Tennessee may have helped save a man's life on Tuesday by helping to resuscitate an apparent heart attack victim.

The congressman was in a Charlotte, N.C. airport on his way to Washington early Tuesday when a man suddenly collapsed. A retired obstetrician/gynecologist, Roe rushed to help and started performing CPR.

"When I got there, he wasn't breathing," Roe told the Daily Caller. "I think there was another doctor there, but we didn't really have a chance to introduce ourselves. I just said, 'I'm Dr. Roe, so and so,' and then we just dived on top of the guy and started giving him CPR."

The paramedics quickly arrived, and Roe said he helped them shock the man with a defibrillator. He told the Daily Caller this was the first time he had helped a person in cardiac arrest in public, as well as his first time using one of the new, portable automated external defibrillators.

"They work great and we just had to defibrillate him once, which is good," he said.

The unidentified man is currently in stable condition, Roe's office told Politico.
